The Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine & Coastal Sciences was established in 1969 through the joint efforts of the Belle W. Baruch Foundation and the University of South Carolina.  As an internationally recognized academic research institute, the Baruch Institute conducts basic research on environmental processes, tidal, estuarine and coastal ocean environments.  Collectively the studies span the molecular to landscape level, including the effects of human activities.  Our collaborative research efforts bring together scientists whose perspectives and expertise enable a more complete approach to wise use and sustainability.

The mission of the Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Sciences is to conduct research and support education that will improve the management of marine and coastal resources and advance basic science for the well-being of people and their environment.

Awards Available for Visiting Scientists.  Applications are being accepted for awards to support investigators interested in spending 2 to 4 weeks in residence at the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory at North Inlet Estuary, during the 2014 field season.   More info
